On May 17th, members of the Hilo Council for Family and Community Education (FCE) presented the Hilo Medical Center Foundation with books for newborns in the Hilo Medical Center’s Obstetrics Unit. The club’s giving is a part of the statewide FCE program to provide books for newborns to encourage parents to begin reading to their children at birth. Elaine Fukui, president of the Ho’ike Club, chaired the Newborn Book Project.
The Hilo Medical Center Foundation is proud to be a part of this program, as it helps the Foundation to succeed in their mission “to support the Hilo Medical Center with projects that benefit the greater community.”
“As the receiving arm of the hospital for community donations, the Foundation applauds the 13 clubs in the Hilo Council for their contributions,” said Lori Rogers, Executive Director of Hilo Medical Center Foundation. “Their support for community growth through literacy and family bonding is exemplary and we thank them.”
