Hilo Medical Center Foundation helps implement the Diabetes in Control Program at the Hilo Medical Center

Retired HMC RN and certified Diabetes Educator Becky Stubbs with Hilo Medical Center Foundation’s Executive Director Lori Rogers. Becky first established the Diabetes in Control Program at HMC.

The Hilo Medical Center Foundation (HMCF) presented a check for $42,011.56 to Hilo Medical Center (HMC) to develop and implement a Diabetes education and management program. This program was successfully implemented with over 100 community participants and will be utilized as the guide for future classes in the community. This program educated patients and their families/caregivers on dealing with diabetes in easy to understand format, improve the diabetic’s quality of life and motivate others in the community to learn about, recognize the symptoms, and manage diabetes. The goal of the program was to work toward a healthier lifestyle for adults and children that will lessen the impact on the healthcare system. HMCF applied for and received the funds from the County of Hawaii. Becky Stubbs, the Diabetes educator from HMC, was the program implementer working in conjunction with the Hilo Medical Center Foundation to obtain the grant.
